2026 Yarmouth Coastal Resiliency Fair

A Park’s Reimagining Paints Backdrop for Interactive Resiliency Education
This month, Woods Hole Group was proud to join the Town of Yarmouth in celebrating the reimagining of a once vacant lot to create an engaging, ecologically resilient space where the community can gather, explore, and learn about coastal resiliency in their neighborhood.
Building Coastal Resilience Through Collaboration
Through a partnership with the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program, The Land & Water Conservation Fund, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, MassDOT, BETA Group, Inc., and Robert B Our CO., INC, Division of Conservation, the Environmental Consulting team at Woods Hole Group had the opportunity to help our Cape Cod neighbors realize a more than 30 year goal; transforming a long closed drive-in theater lot into Parker’s River Landing, a sustainable park for generations to enjoy.
“This project is more than just a park; it’s a shining example of how Yarmouth is growing, preparing, and adapting to our changing environment.” Formerly a drive-in theater, collaborators and project partners worked to redefine a neglected section of land, breathing new life into the property with an elevated boardwalk, restored natural habitats, and a kayak launch, all encouraging harmonious co-existence and ecological sustainability.

A Grand Opening, an Opportunity to Empower a Community
As the community gathered to celebrate the opening of the park, Woods Hole Group’s Climate & Sustainability Team Leader, Brittany Hoffnagle, organized project partners for the Yarmouth Coastal Resiliency Fair, providing neighborhood residents with an interactive and educational experience focused on coastal resiliency.
The Coastal Resiliency Fair also highlighted work completed over the last 2 years under an MVP action grant. The grant provided much needed funding to evaluate the flood vulnerability of local roadways. Woods Hole Group assisted in evaluating the ability for emergency responders to access residents along the low-lying and vulnerable road network in the study area. Woods Hole Group captured data that supports a resiliency plan, building a path forward, ensuring emergency services have safe access to all members of the community, in the moments when every second counts.

During the Coastal Resiliency Fair, community members had the opportunity to discuss upcoming resiliency projects with coordinators, express concerns about vulnerabilities within their neighborhood, and tour the newly renovated park with U.S. AmeriCorps volunteers who provided interesting and engaging facts about the area’s wildlife.

Woods Hole Group is proud to continuously support coastal communities as they work toward a more resilient future through collaboration, education, and innovation.
