Strengthening Long Island Sound Communities Through Resilience Planning

Woods Hole Group is proud to be selected as one of the consulting partners supporting the latest round of the Long Island Sound Resilience Planning Support Program, which is helping fourteen coastal communities across New York and Connecticut advance critical resilience-focused projects.
As part of this initiative, Woods Hole Group will be working with the Great Neck Village Officials Association to develop a comprehensive Environmental Risk and Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan. This Intermunicipal effort brings together nine villages and the Town of North Hempstead to evaluate coastal hazards, identify priority risks, and conceptualize adaptation strategies that strengthen resilience across the entire Great Neck peninsula.
Local leaders have emphasized how important this collaboration is, noting that region-wide planning is essential as communities confront the accelerating impacts of sea-level rise, stormwater challenges, and extreme weather.
The funded efforts across Long Island Sound include community resilience and sustainability plans, natural resource inventories, shoreline adaptation concepts, harbor and watershed management strategies, stormwater solutions, and green infrastructure planning. The collective momentum reflects a strong regional commitment to preparing for a changing climate.
The Long Island Sound Resilience Planning Support Program continues to help municipalities overcome capacity constraints by pairing them with technical partners who can advance early-stage planning and position communities for future design and implementation work.
Woods Hole Group is honored to support this important mission and remains committed to helping coastal communities build a safer, more resilient future.
