Building Coastal Resilience : One Grass Plug at a Time

Sep 10, 2025

Recently, Woods Hole Group teammates, Alex Carbone and Marina Chiafullo, volunteered their time with the Cuttyhunk STEAM Academy, joining middle schoolers from Falmouth’s Lawrence School to plant beach grass at a restoration site.

Projects like this are a great example of how education, community, and science intersect. Beach grass does more than anchor sand , it strengthens dunes, protects shorelines from erosion, and helps coastal ecosystems adapt to rising seas.

We’re proud to see our colleagues contributing their expertise and energy to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. Hands-on learning opportunities like this bring climate resilience to life and remind us how every small action adds up.
